Folded Brim Beanie FREE Knit Pattern

If you've been following along with my Instagram account or reading my posts here on the blog, you know that I recently learned how to knit. I began my knitting journey a little over a month ago. A MONTH?! Honestly, it feels like I just learned yesterday. I'm still in that beginner's stage of trying something new, where everything is fun and you want to learn ALL the things. Ya know, you couldn't get bored of it -- if you tried. I'd kinda forgotten what it felt like when I first learned to crochet because I was really young - but now I remember - and it feels really good. I know I'm not alone. I know there are A LOT of you out there who want to learn or are learning like me. So, I thought, why not?

If you know me, you know my heart lies in designing. There is just something about creating a pattern - that I love. You're taking some yarn and a hook (or in this case needles) ..and you're playing around with stitches to create something new. It's fun! I am by NO means ready to design a knit garment.. but I have made a lot of beanies these past few weeks. I've been playing around with all of the beginner stitches and techniques that I've learned thus far.. and I figured, why not share some of these super easy "beginner friendly" patterns with other beginners - just like me? If you're a knitting newbie who is looking for a simple, no-frills, easy to make beanie.. you've just found it!

Here's the FREE knit pattern for the Folded Brim Beanie!

MATERIALS:
1 skein of worsted weight yarn -under 200 yds.
I used Stitch Studio by Nicole's Earthtone yarn.
8mm circular knitting needles.
I used my pair of Clover Bamboo Circulars.
A stitch marker, a yarn needle & a pair of scissors.

FINISHED SIZE:
Hat measures approx. 9" wide x 11" tall and fits child-adult.
The ribbed stitch has A LOT of stretch so this will fit most!

GAUGE:
9 sts. and 9 rows = 2"

ABBREVIATIONS:
CO = cast on

K = knit
P = purl
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together

------------------------------------------------------------

PATTERN:

Cast on 76 stitches. (I used the long tail cast on method and I needed approx. 5 elbow lengths of yarn.)
K1, P1 - repeat for entire row.. continue for 46 total rows (10") or until you've reached your desired size.

Next, you'll begin your decrease rows..

You can switch to DPN’s (or use the magic loop method), but I just did it with my circulars!
1. K2tog, repeat around entire row. (38 sts.)
2. Knit around the entire row. (38 sts.)
3. K2tog, repeat around entire row. (19 sts.)

TO FINISH:
Carefully cut your yarn leaving excess to stitch the top of your hat closed. Use your yarn needle to weave the yarn through the remaining loops - picking them up one by one off the needle. Pull tightly to cinch the top of your hat closed, then stitch around through the stitches one more time. Stitch through to the inside of the hat. Knot your yarn and tuck in your ends. Congrats! You've just made your first knit Folded Brim Beanie!
